Unlike traditional oven-baked jacket potatoes, which can take up to an hour to cook, a microwave jacket potato can be ready in as little as 10 minutes.
Pierce the potato all over with a fork and put into the microwave.
Cook on high power for 8 minutes, turning over halfway through cooking.
Cut a cross into the cooked potato and pinch open. Serve with Butter (optional).
Notes
This recipe is based on a 1000w microwave. Adjust the time if your microwave has a different power rating.
When selecting potatoes for jacket potatoes, it's important to choose ones that are roughly the same size. This will ensure that they cook evenly in the microwave. Potatoes that are too small may cook too quickly, while larger potatoes may take longer to cook and may not cook through evenly.
It's important to let the potato rest for a few minutes after cooking. This allows the potato to finish cooking and helps to distribute the heat evenly throughout. If you cut into the potato too soon, it may be undercooked in the middle and overcooked on the outside. Letting it rest for a few minutes ensures that it's cooked perfectly all the way through.
