(canned, as finely chopped as possible)

garlic cloves

shallots
finely diced

teaspoon
dried oregano

Instructions
Heat the oil and gently cook the shallots and garlic until softened - about 3-4 minutes.
1 teaspoon olive oil,
2 garlic cloves,
2 shallots
Add the chopped tomatoes, tomato puree, oregano, sugar, salt and pepper.
400 g chopped tomatoes,
100 g tomato puree,
1 teaspoon dried oregano,
0.5 teaspoon sugar,
1 pinch sea salt and black pepper
Cook on a low heat for 5 minutes. Add the chopped basil. Stir and serve.

Add some extra flavour to this sauce with a glug of good quality olive oil. Not too much though, as you don't want to make it thin.
