These homemade chocolate buttons are the perfect little sweet treat and we have made them even more nutritious by topping them with our superfood sprinkles mix. As simple as melting dark chocolate and dropping spoonfuls on a lined tray, topping with your favorite crunchy mix and then putting in the refrigerator to set.

Chocolate buttons have always been my kid's favorite. To be honest, they were always mine and I still love them!
We are always looking for ways to make our favorite things more nutritious and we have done that here by using 80% dark chocolate and then topping it with our homemade nut, seed and berry mixture.
You can make these nut free and they make a great addition to a kid's lunch box, rather than processed chocolate bars or sweet snacks. These take less than 5 minutes to make, and you can stash them in a jar in the fridge for when the sweet cravings hit. They also make really nice homemade gifts.
We love these for portion control. You get that hit of chocolate flavor, which is really intense thanks to the dark chocolate, but in small bite sized pieces.

Ingredients and Substitutions
A full ingredients list, along with US Customary and Metric measurements, can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post.
- Chocolate - We used 80% dark organic chocolate.
- Oil - We put a little bit of coconut oil in with the dark chocolate to make it easier to melt and it makes it glossier.
- Sprinkles - This is a mixture of freeze dried berries, puffed quinoa, nuts, seeds, coconut and bee pollen. You could just use our Superfood Sprinkle mixture though. Leave the bee pollen out if you want to make these vegan.
Variations
You could add a little orange or mint essence in with the chocolate to change the flavor of it.
You could also mix up what goes into the sprinkles that go on top. Dried cranberries, candied orange peel or goji berries add a chunkier topping. You could also change the nuts used and include peanuts, walnuts, pecans or any other nuts.
To make these even more beautiful, why not add some edible flower petals?
Nots a fan of dark chocolate? Milk or white chocolate work too. You could make a few of each and mix them up in a jar.
Make these more chocolatey by adding chocolate sprinkles on top.
How To Make Dark Chocolate Buttons - Step by Step
- Step 1: Melt the dark chocolate and coconut oil together. If you are worried about the chocolate seizing, then use a bain-marie. If it does separate a little, then adding a little oil usually fixes this.
- Step 2: Use a teaspoon to spoon out circles on to a lined baking tray and then use the back of the spoon to spread the mixture out to make it even.
Before the mixture sets, add the sprinkles on top.
- Step 3: Put them in the fridge until set.
Serving Suggestions
I mean, we just eat these straight out of the jar! This chocolate button recipe doesn't last long, as everyone in our house can't get enough of them.
However, if you can make them last longer than a day, there is so much more that you can do with these dark chocolate buttons than just throw them into your mouth!
They are delicious on top of porridge, so the heat of the porridge melts them and they can be stirred in. You can put them on top of ice cream or yogurt too.
