This Protein Iced Coffee Recipe takes just a few minutes to put together and it's an easy way to give your protein intake a bit of a boost. I am a coffee lover, and this protein coffee is sweet and creamy, and a much healthier alternative to those store bought protein shakes.
I am focusing on upping my protein at the moment, and whilst I try to get the majority of my protein from my food, sometimes I need to supplement that. Usually, I'd have eggs for breakfast, but if I am having a lower protein breakfast, then I will give it a boost with this protein coffee recipe.
I mean, I am having coffee anyway. Might as well make a high protein version. Protein and a caffeine hit!
Those store bought protein coffee shakes are popular now, but if you look at the ingredients list - they are full of junk. Making iced protein coffee yourself is a much healthier option, and it contains just 3 ingredients. And you don't even need to leave your house!

Ingredients and Substitutions
A full ingredients list, along with US Customary and Metric measurements, can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post.
- Coffee - You want to use espresso shots in this recipe. Use your favorite coffee.
- Protein Powder - The type of protein powder you use is important. The reason why we make protein iced coffee ourselves, rather than buying it at the shop is because we don't want it full of additives. Unfortunately, a lot of protein powder is. So, look for one with the fewest ingredients possible. Here is the Protein Powder that we use. You can use vanilla protein powder or chocolate.
- Milk - We made this into a protein iced latte, as that's our preference. But you could just add water instead if you didn't want a latte.
- Ice - A must for an iced coffee.
Variations
Syrup - If you loved a flavored syrup in your coffee usually, then it can be added here as well. Hazelnut and caramel are always my favorites. You could also just stir some sugar or stevia into the hot espresso.
Mocha - To make a mocha version, you can mix some dark cocoa powder, or cacao powder, with the protein powder for a chocolate flavor.

Serving Suggestions
This should be served the same way that you would serve any iced coffee. In a glass with lots of ice. But, if you think of the kind of things that would be added in your local coffee shop, then they are options here too.
To make this iced protein coffee more indulgent, you can add some whipped cream, a drizzle or chocolate sauce or a sprinkle of ground cinnamon.
