Ingredients and Substitutions

All the ingredients needed for this recipe each with a text overlay label.

A full ingredients list, along with US Customary and Metric measurements, can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post.

  • Camembert - You need a whole round of Camembert for this recipe, and preferably the one that comes in a wooden box.
  • Oil - This helps to get the top of the Camembert nice and crispy.
  • Honey - Not only does this help crisp it up, but it gives air fryer Camembert a lovely sweetness that really balances out the creamy and indulgent cheese. You need clear runny honey, but maple syrup works well too.
  • Thyme - A delicious herb with cheese. Rosemary works well too.

Variations

If you want to add a spicy twist to Camembert in the air fryer, then add a sprinkle of red chilli flakes at the same time as the honey and thyme. It would be like a hot honey air fryer Camembert. You can also add some thin slices of garlic too.

Instead of the honey and thyme, you can add a big spoonful of the chutney straight into the cut in the cheese, or even some cranberry sauce.

For some added crunch, add some crushed walnuts or pecans when adding the thyme.

You don't have to use Camembert, as Brie works well too. For something different, you can put some Boursin in a dish and bake that too. Herby and garlicky goodness!

How to Make Air Fryer Camembert - Step by Step

Prep: Preheat your air fryer to 180°C for 5 minutes.

Serving Suggestions

There are so many options here. We dipped some warm crusty bread into it, but bread sticks and crackers work well too. Why not try our homemade Cheese Biscuits?

You could also dip vegetables into it for something lighter too. We like carrot sticks, strips of bell pepper, cucumber and even broccoli.

To balance out the creaminess of the Camembert, we serve our air fryer Camembert with some chutney. To keep it festive try our Christmas Chutney.

If you want something super indulgent, and who doesn't at Christmas, then dip our Air Fryer Pigs in Blankets in this!

Apple and cheese always go so well together, so some apple slices are a good addition.

Why not air fry Camembert and then add it to one of our party platters like our Anitpasto Platter or Grazing Platter?

A hand dipping a chunk of bread into some cooked Camembert.

How Long to Cook Camembert in the Air Fryer?

We cooked our air fryer Camembert for 10 minutes at 180°C. However, the exact cooking time will depend on your air fryer as they all cook things at different rates.

It's best to cook it for 8 minutes and check on it and then cook it for 1 minute at a time until done. But you can't really get this Camembert in air fryer wrong, as long as it's melted!

Extra Tips

  • Preheat your air fryer for a couple of minutes first. This will ensure the cheese it cooked and melted all the way through.
  • If your Camembert doesn't come in a wooden box, no problem. You can just put the unwrapped cheese in a ramekin or small oven proof dish and then in the air fryer. You can also just put it on a piece of baking/parchment paper.
  • This is best served straight away. So once it has reached your desired meltiness (that's a word, right?), then serve it hot.
  • If you are serving it with slices of baguette, you can put them around the Camembert in the air fryer for the last couple of minutes to heat through.
  • A balsamic glaze is also really good drizzles over the cooked cheese.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to store leftovers?

This is best eaten straight away, so eat it warm from the air fryer.

Do I have to cut a slit in the top?

Yes, as it helps the insides get extra melty and it looks much more pretty when serving too. it helps it melt evenly too.

Can you eat the rind of Camembert?

Yes, the rind of the Camembert is perfectly safe to eat and it is deliciously crispy in this recipe.

Can you air fry Camembert wedges?

No, it needs to be a round of it with rind all round the edges. It's a really gooey cheese when melted and the wedges would just ooze everywhere.

Unfortunately it didn't turn out too great, most of the cheese oozed out & leaked from the box. . Think I'd wrap the bottom and sides of the box in foil if I were to try it again. Still tasty though.

This will happen if there are holes or slits in the box. But, as mentioned in the extra tips section, you can also just put it on a piece of baking/parchment paper.

First time I cooked camembert in an air-fryer, but certainly won't be the last. It turned out great - all oozy in the middle and beautifully browned on top. We used rosemary on this occasion, cause that's all we had, but I bet it's superb with thyme flavours too! W
