Just a few basic kitchen ingredients mixed together in a bowl and then cooked in the air fryer and you have a simple homemade granola that is so easy to adapt. You can't beat homemade granola, as it's so much cheaper and healthier than store bought, and this Air Fryer Granola recipe is my favorite because it cooks perfectly every time.
You might be thinking - why air fryer granola? Well lots of reasons! Sometimes an air fryer might be the only cooking appliance you have, or you might choose it over the oven for energy saving reasons.
For me, making granola in the air fryer gets perfect results every time. It never burns, it's not too crunchy and has the perfect texture.
You can't go wrong with making granola yourself. It's much cheaper than store bought (especially the "healthy" versions) and you can adapt it to make it as sweet, or not, as you like. This air fryer granola is so easy to adapt with different nuts, seeds and add-ins, that you never have to have it the same way twice.

Ingredients and Substitutions
A full ingredients list, along with US Customary and Metric measurements, can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post.
- Oats - This is the bulk of the air fryer granola recipe. Use rolled oats, not quick cook oats.
- Nut butter - This helps to bind everything together. We used almond butter, but peanut butter or cashew butter would work too.
- Maple syrup - This is where the sweetness comes from, and keeps it refined sugar free. But any liquid sweetener like honey or agave will work.
- Egg whites - Not only does this help the oats to bind, but it also gives a crunchier granola.
- Spices - Some cinnamon and ginger add a lovely warmth to the air fryer granola.
- Salt - This helps to bring out the sweetness. Use a good quality sea salt.
- Vanilla - Make sure you are using extract and not essence.
- Nuts - We used a mixture of almonds, cashews and walnuts. Hazelnuts and pecans will work well.
- Seeds - For some added crunch, we added sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and then some chia seeds which give it a protein boost.
- Fruit - You want dried fruit here. We went with dried cranberries, but dried cherries and raisins work too.
Variations
The great thing about homemade granola is that it is so easy to adapt. Change the nuts, seeds and fruit that is added and make it a different way every time.
Our kids also love it when we put dark chocolate chips into it too. You don't need a lot, as they mix in with everything, but it's nice to have a little chocolate hit in every bite. We recommend these sugar free chocolate chips.
You could also add coconut flakes and dried banana and mango to give it a tropical twist.

Air Fryer Granola Serving Suggestions
We love serving air fryer granola with yogurt or milk. A nice thick Greek yogurt works well, but you could use a flavored yogurt too. Then we make a compote with frozen berries and chia seeds to go alongside it. You can make parfaits with them too.
If you like your breakfast really sweet, then you could serve it will a drizzle of honey or maple syrup. We like to add some fresh fruit for some extra sweetness though. Granola also makes a really nice pancake topping for some added crunch.
It's also a great topping for ice cream or our Chia Pudding, Smoothie Bowl or Chocolate Yogurt.
Extra Tips
- Granola will store in an air tight container for up to 2 months.
- Every air fryer cooks differently, so keep an eye on your granola. It might also need a couple of extra minutes.
- It will get crispier as it cools, so don't worry if it isn't super crispy when the cooking time is finished.
- Press then granola down into the air fryer before cooking. This ensures that it is all stuck together, and not loose, giving you chunkier granola.
- To make this nut free, swap the almond butter for sunflower seed butter and leave out the whole nuts.
- If you want to double the recipe, you will need to cook it in batches because it needs to cook in a single layer to get crunchy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Store this in an airtight container (we use a jar) and it will keep for quite a few months. We just take out a scoop at a time and store the rest away ready for another delicious breakfast. You can also freeze granola. Put it in a freezer bag, and then just get out a portion and defrost it at room temperature before using. It won't be as crispy, but still delicious.
One serving is around ⅓ cup (43g). You can always add more, but the nuts make it quite high in calories, so we think this is a good portion, when you have yogurt and extra fruit with it.
Yes, as long as you use certified gluten free oats and make sure there is no cross contamination, then this is gluten free.
