This protein packed 15 minute breakfast recipe is perfect for when you want something nutritious, comforting and minimal hands on time. These Air Fryer Breakfast Bagels are easy to adapt with different cheese and veggies, and are great for meal prep too, as they can be stashed in the freezer like a breakfast sandwich/burrito.
We love egg in a hole, so we came up with this twist on it by making egg in a hole bagel. We are always looking for new ways to use our air fryer too, which is how we started making breakfast bagels in the air fryer.
Just crack the eggs into the bagels, top with cheese and them put the air fryer on, which leaves us to carry on getting the kids ready for school without worrying about anything cooking in a pan. Our kids LOVE these breakfast bagels too.

Ingredients and Substitutions
A full ingredients list, along with US Customary and Metric measurements, can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post.
- Bagel - We used a wholewheat bagel for this recipe, but why not try our Easy Bagel Recipe or Cottage Cheese Bagels? You can use gluten free bagels too if needed.
- Eggs - Use medium sized eggs. Large eggs will be too big for most bagels.
- Cheese - We used a mature cheddar, as a little goes a long way because of the strong flavor. You could use mozzarella instead, but it would make it a bit messier as it melts very well.
- Seasoning - We just used salt and pepper, but you could use our Everything Bagel Seasoning.
- Chives - Adds a pop of color and flavor when serving.
Variations
Seasoning - As well as our bagel seasoning, there are lots of other seasoning options. You could add a sprinkling of smoked paprika to these air fryer breakfast bagels, or some red chili flakes on top.
Cheese - Grated cheese is what we usually use, but what also goes really well with eggs is feta! It doesn't melt, but goes nice and gooey when crumbled on these breakfast bagels.
Vegetables - Who doesn't love an opportunity to add more vegetables? You don't have a lot of room to play with when it comes to assembling these air fryer cheesy egg bagels, but you have a little space. Why not try adding some chopped spinach, diced red onion or peppers or some tomato slices?
Meat - We don't think these are missing meat, but you could add some chopped ham or chorizo under the cheese.
How To Make Air Fryer Breakfast Bagels - Step by Step
- Step 1: Slice the bagels in half and put cut side down in a lined basket in the air fryer. Cook at 190°C for 2 minutes.
- Step 2: Crack and egg into each bagel hole and then divide the cheese and seasoning between them.
- Step 3: Cook them at 190C for 8-9 minutes, depending on how you like your eggs cooked.
- Sprinkle with fresh chives before serving.
Serving Suggestions
These breakfast bagels really have it all, and we usually just serve them with a drizzle of hot sauce and a coffee on the side.
However, if you are making these for a brunch, then you might want some sides to go with it. Why not try our Bacon in the Oven, Air Fryer Sausages or Baked Home Fries?
Extra Tips
- When choosing the bagels to use for this recipe, make sure that they have a fairly large hole, as you need to be able to fit all the egg yolk in it and some of the white too. You can make the hole a little bigger if needed by squashing it up.
- Some of the egg white will overflow out of the bagel, but that's okay. These are meant to look messy!
- We used parchment paper (baking paper) to line out air fryer, but you could use air fryer liners too.
- If you want to add a kick of spice to these, then add some chopped jalapeños to the cheese.
- Keep an eye on the bagels when cooking as every air fryer cooks differently and they can go from runny yolk to overcooked very quickly.
Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, these freeze really well, and are great for meal prep. Wrap them up individually and then store them in a freezer bag. They will be good in the freezer for 2 months. Defrost them in the freezer overnight and then you can reheat them in the air fryer.
Yes, you can, and this is the preferred method if you are making quite a few of them. Assemble them on a lined baking sheet in the same way you would for the air fryer version and put them in a preheated oven at 190°C/170°C(fan)/375°F/Gas 5 for 8 minutes for a runny egg or 10 minutes for a jammy egg. Do 12 minutes for a hard yolk.
