Honey glazed ham might just be one of my favourite roast meats. The combination of the salty ham and the sweet honey glaze just works so well. It looks really impressive with the sliced crispy top, but it is really easy to make. Everyone will be fighting over the crispy sticky glaze!
Not only is this honey glazed ham recipe the perfect roast dinner meat (especially at Christmas time), but there leftovers have SO many uses - from pies to sandwiches and pasta dishes.

Ingredients and Substitutions
A full ingredients list, along with US Customary and Metric measurements, can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post.
- Ham - You can use a ham or gammon joint. Just make sure that it is boneless and with the fat still on. We go for unsmoked, but you can use smoked if you prefer. This recipe is for a 1.3kg joint of ham.
- Honey - Use a good quality runny honey. It needs to be able to be poured over the roast ham.
- Mustard - This is optional, but we find it adds a lovely added flavour, that goes really well with the honey. We used Dijon mustard, but you could use wholegrain instead. If you want to make a honey glazed ham without mustard, then just leave it out.
Honey Roast Ham Variations
You can swap the honey for maple syrup if you prefer. If you want to make this extra sweet, then you can mix some Demerara sugar/brown sugar into the honey and mustard mixture.
For extra flavour, you can stud the gammon with some cloves. This gives it a nice festive flavour at Christmas time too.

Serving Suggestions
This delicious honey ham is a great addition to any roast dinner. We served it with our Slow Cooker Roast Potatoes (surprisingly crispy), Creamed Cabbage and then some Air Fryer Stuffing Balls on the side.
Any leftover ham can be used in our Gammon Pasta or our Chicken and Ham Pie. It's also really good in a sandwich or served with our Oven Egg and Chips. Also, you can use this instead of bacon in our Healthy Carbonara recipe.
Extra Tips
- They honey and mustard mixture that is left over in the baking tray is very difficult to clean off. So, my advise if you are making this at Christmas time is to use a disposable tray to save yourself some time. But, if making this regularly I wouldn't say to do that all the time because of the environmental impact.
- If you want to your honey roast ham this less salty, then you can soak your ham joint in water for 2 hours and then rinse and pat dry with paper towel.
- Allow the roast ham to rest for 10 minutes before slicing. This allows all the juices to redistribute through the joint and make a really juicy ham.
Frequently Asked Questions
Any leftovers can be wrapped up and stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days. You can also freeze slices in portions wrapped up and kept in a freezer bag. This will keep for up to 3 months. You can reheat it in the oven or microwave.
No, there is no need to boil the ham first. This is a small 1.3kg ham joint, so there is no need to boil it before roasting. If you are cooking a much larger ham, then you can boil it before it goes in the oven.
