Don't be spending extra money in Starbucks on adding protein cold foam to your iced latte - try making it at home yourself. It is SO easy and lower in calories and higher in protein than Starbucks too! Just 2 ingredients, and less than 5 minutes to make, and you are adding an extra 16 grams of protein to your coffee, as well as some extra flavour without the need to use syrups.

I know, I know, a Starbucks (other coffee chains are available) is one of life's little luxuries and it's all well and good me saying to make it yourself at home, but when you are out and you need a coffee - a coffee shop is the best option. However, £2 to add protein cold foam turns a coffee out into a £6-7 indulgence.
So, on a few occasions, why not try making your own iced latte at home (treat yourself to these Glass Iced Latte Glasses) and make this easy Starbucks copycat protein cold foam to go on top.
We have shared our recipe for Protein Iced Coffee before, but the protein cold foam makes it feel more like a coffee shop drink. Add this to your morning routine for a protein boost to start the day.

Ingredients and Substitutions

A full ingredients list, along with US Customary and Metric measurements, can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post.
- Milk - We used skimmed milk, not just to make it lighter but after testing a few different milks it actually frothed up the best. You can use any milk though. You can use a dairy free milk, but it won't froth up as well.
- Protein powder - You can use plain, but we used vanilla whey protein powder as it added some extra flavour without the need for syrups. This will only work with whey protein, and not a plant based option. We have tested it, and it just doesn't froth up to make cold foam.
Variations
Protein powder - Vanilla is our preference, but chocolate protein powder also works well. If you want extra coffee flavour, then use a coffee protein powder.
Greek yogurt - If you want to make it even thicker (but less foamy) and add some extra protein, then you can add a couple of spoonfuls of Greek yogurt and froth it all together.
How To Make Protein Cold Foam

Step 1
In a glass or jug add the milk and protein powder.

Step 2
Use a milk frother to whisk everything together.

Step 3
Carefully pour the foam on top of your favourite coffee.
Serving Suggestions
This cold foam works best with cold coffee drinks rather than hot coffee.
Try it over cold brew for a smooth, less bitter drink, or use iced espresso if you want something stronger. We put it on top of our Homemade Iced Latte.
Protein Cold Foam Leftovers
This protein cold foam is best frothed up right before you are going to spoon it on top of your coffee. If it is left, it starts to loose it's frothiness.
If you do have leftovers, rather than wasting it you can put it in an airtight container in the fridge and then just froth it up again before using it. It will only be good for a day or so though.

Dannii's Top Tips
- Make sure your milk is cold, as it froths up better cold from the fridge and makes the best protein foam.
- Serve this immediately. The protein cold foam will start to settle the longer it is left.
- If your protein powder does not dissolve well, blend the mixture instead of just frothing it. A handheld frother is great for quick foam, but a blender gives the smoothest result.
- Do not add too much protein powder. It can make the foam thick, chalky or grainy. Start with a smaller amount and adjust depending on the brand you use.
- Taste before serving. Some protein powders are very sweet, while others might need some maple syrup or extra sweetener.
- Use a tall narrow jug if using a handheld frother. This helps the mixture foam up instead of splashing everywhere.
