- Fruit - That's the only ingredient and anything goes. We used watermelon, strawberries, raspberries, mango, pineapple, kiwi, grapes and blueberries. Just make sure that it's fresh and ripe. You don't want anything too soft and mushy, otherwise it won't thread on the stick. Carry on reading for more fruit kebab ideas.
Fruit Kebab Variations
Most fruits will work well when it comes to rainbow fruit skewers and we recommend using a mixture of sizes, flavors and textures. The more color the better. Along with what we have used, here are some other fruits that work well:
- Dragon fruit
- Banana
- Star fruit
- Blackberries
- Peach
- Orange
- Apple
- Pear
If you wanted to change up the shapes of the fruit, then you could use mini cookie/sandwich cutters to cut out little heart or star shapes of fruits like melon.
You could also drizzle them with melted dark chocolate before or honey serving. It makes them look really impressive, with very little effort. When the chocolate is still wet, you could sprinkle some sea salt or coconut on it.
Serving Suggestions
Whilst you can certainly just eat these fruit skewers as they are, we think some kind of fruit dip goes really well with them. We served ours with Creamy Peanut Butter Yogurt Dip.
However, you should also try our Cream Cheese Fruit Dip and Healthy Chocolate Fruit Dip.
For something a bit more indulgent, then why not make a batch of our Healthier Homemade Nutella to dip these fruit kebabs in.
Extra Tips
- Don't use fruit that is going to brown quickly if you are going to have these sat out for a little while. You can squeeze on some lemon juice to slow down the browning process, but it will add a lemon flavor.
- If you are making these for young children and using grapes, make sure to cut them length-ways before skewering.
- For extra flavor and texture, you could add grilled fruit. Grilled pineapple and watermelon is delicious.
Frequently Asked Questions
Fruit kebabs are best eaten straight away, however any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge until the next day. We like to chop up any leftovers to make a fruit salad. Great for adding to yogurt or on top of pancakes.
Depending on the ages of the people you are making these for, you might need to adjust the stick you use. If making these for young children, then you can use a lollipop stick that isn't sharp. Otherwise, we just use the wooden or bamboo skewers that we would use for chicken kebabs.
