For a low calorie and refreshing dessert or snack, we love these homemade Fruit Jelly Pots. So simple to make, with just 4 ingredients, and they are much cheaper than the store bought individual pots of fruit jelly. Naturally sweetened orange jelly with diced peaches is our go-to healthy dessert in the summer.
Who doesn't love jelly (or Jello as you might call it)? It's such a childhood classic (although, usually served with ice cream), but something we still love now as it's a low calorie dessert that is also refreshing.
Store bought jelly is usually full of artificial sweeteners and the individual low calorie pots are so expensive for what they are. So, we make our own fruit with jelly that is naturally sweetened and portion them out into little pots.

Ingredients and Substitutions
A full ingredients list, along with US Customary and Metric measurements, can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post.
- Gelatine - This is what thickens the jelly pots and gives it that jelly texture. You can find gelatine granules in the baking sections of most supermarkets.
- Water - This is mixed with the gelatine to make the bulk of the low calorie jelly mixture.
- Orange Juice - We made this orange jelly, so the flavour comes from pure orange juice.
- Peaches - This is what makes it a fruit jelly recipe, as we have bulked it out with chopped canned peaches. There are lots of fruit options for fruit with jelly, and we have given alternatives below.
More ingredient substitutions and variations can be found in the recipe card.
How to Make Fruit Jelly - Step by Step
- Step 1: Add the gelatine granules to the boiled water. Stir until completely dissolved.
- Step 2: Pour the gelatine water into the orange juice.
- Step 3: Divide the chopped peaches between the pots and pour the orange mixture into each pot. Refrigerate for 4 hours.
Substitutions
Fruit Juice - You can make all kinds of different flavour fruit jelly recipes by changing the fruit juice that you use. We used orange juice, but you can use pineapple juice, mango juice, mixed berry juice. Just try to keep it 100% juice, to keep this a healthy jelly and sugar free jelly.
Fruit - This is a great way to bulk the fruit jelly recipe out, and we used canned peaches but any canned or fresh fruit works. We like pineapple chunks, chopped grapes and chunks of mango. Just make sure to chop them up small. We wouldn't recommend softer fruit like berries, as they can go a bit mushy.
Vegetarian - You can use Vege-Gel instead, which is a vegetarian alternative to gelatine. The amounts will vary though, so follow the ratio on the packet as every brand is different.
Serving Suggestions
It's got to be ice cream, right? Jelly and ice cream is a must at every kid's birthday party and our kids love it too. You could serve it with frozen yogurt or fruit yogurt instead.
We usually just eat this homemade jelly as they are for a low calorie dessert.
Extra Tips
- Whatever fruit you are adding to these jelly pots, make sure that it is chopped up small so it is bite-sized.
- You can pour this mixture into ice cube moulds to make mini versions of this that kids will love.
- If you want it to come out of the mould/pots whole, then you can dip them in hot water to loosen the edges and slide it out. This is good if you have put them in fun shape pots like these Jelly Moulds.
Frequently Asked Questions
We poured this mixture into these Individual Storage Pots and with the lid they will store in the fridge for about 5 days.
We wouldn't recommend freezing these. The consistency just wouldn't be the same once thawed.
