Halloween Fruit Tray with a text title overlay.

An easy and fun way to get kids to eat fruit this Halloween. This Halloween Fruit Tray is in the shape of a Jack-O-Lantern and is easy to adapt with your kid's favorite fruits. Get the kids involved with making this healthy Halloween snack.

A fruit platter made into the shape of a Jack O' Lantern.

If you have seen our Halloween Veggie Tray, then this is a fruity twist on that! It has all of the fun of Halloween themed treats, but none of the added sugar and scary colours and preservatives. We are all for some fun Halloween treats (and tricks), but some Halloween fruit helps to balance it out.

A must at any Halloween party, this Halloween fruit tray uses oranges to create a Jack-O-Lantern and then berries to make the face. Easy to adapt and takes less than 10 minutes to put together.

Ingredients and Substitutions

All the ingredients needed to make this recipe, each with a text overlay label.

A full ingredients list, along with US Customary and Metric measurements, can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post.

  • Orange - We used satsumas, as we were making a small Halloween fruit platter. If you were making a larger one then you can use navel oranges.
  • Apple - This is added to make the stalk/stem of the pumpkin. Green apples make a more realistic stalk.
  • Berries - These are used to make the eyes, nose and mouth.

Variations

This is a really simple recipe, so there isn't too much that you can change. You can use any type of orange you like, like navel orange, satsuma, clementines. You could even use a grapefruit, which would have a similar colour (although, not as pumpkin like) and would change up the flavor.

When it comes to creating the Jack-O-Lantern face, there are SO many options. We kept it as just fruit, as this is a Halloween fruit platter after all.

Other fruit that works well are blackberries, grapes, kiwi, melon, cherries, pear, banana, pineapple or dates. The key is to chop it into small pieces, as you don't have a lot of space to fill.

With our Halloween veggie tray, we put dips in the eyes - you could do that with this Halloween fruit tray too. Why not try our Cream Cheese Fruit Dip or Healthy Chocolate Fruit Dip? Melted milk or white chocolate would work for something more indulgent too.

How To Make a Halloween Fruit Tray - Step by Step

A pumpkin shaped platter with orange segments on it.
  1. Step 1: Use the orange segments to make a Jack-O-Lantern shape.
Blueberries, raspberries and strawberries added to the platter.
  1. Step 2: Use blueberries for the eyes, raspberries for the nose and strawberries to make the teeth.
Apple slices added to the platter.
  1. Step 3: Take the apple slices and make a stalk/stem.

Serving Suggestions

We think this Halloween fruit would be the perfect addition to a spooky dessert table at a party. Why not make it alongside our Halloween Doughnut Bats, Chocolate Covered Apple Slices or Healthy Pumpkin Oat Muffins?

Extra Tips

  • Instead of apple slices for the stalk, you could use pretzel sticks.
  • This fruit tray is best made just before you are going to serve it, otherwise the fruit will start to go dry. If you are using apples and bananas, then they will start to brown after an hour anyway. You could brush them with some apple or lemon juice to prevent them from browning.
  • You can use any size platter you like. We used a small one, as you never knew how much fruit the kids are going to eat. Feel free to adapt. This Halloween Board would be good to use.
  • You can make this more Halloween themed by adding some fake spiders and eyeballs to it.
  • If you wanted to add some chocolate, then some dark chocolate chips would work for the eyes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this Halloween fruit platter ahead of time?

If you are not using banana, and you swap the apple for pretzel sticks, then you can make this 1-2 hours ahead of time.

How to store leftovers?

This is best eaten right away. However, if you do have leftover fruit then you can transfer it to an airtight container and store in the fridge for a couple of days. We add any leftovers to lunchboxes or throw it in a smoothie.
