If you are looking for a healthy option this spooky season, then check out these Jack-O-Lantern Orange Fruit Cups. They are SO simple to make, simply by carving an orange just like you would a pumpkin and then filling them with your favorite fruit.

Two oranges cut into Jack O'Lantern designs, on a wooden board.

We are all for treats (and tricks) at Halloween, but it's nice to balance it out a little and make sure the kids (and adults) are getting some goodness too. We do that by making as many of our meals and snacks Halloween themed.

These Jack-O-Lantern oranges couldn't be easier and they are so easy to adapt with different faces carved out and different fruit fillings too. Oranges with faces just got an upgrade!

If you are looking for some more healthy Halloween recipes, then why not try our easy Halloween Fruit Platter, impressive Halloween Veggie Tray, delicious Healthy Pumpkin Bread or quick Halloween Tortilla Chips?

Ingredients and Substitutions

All the ingredients needed to make this recipe, each with a text overlay label.

A full ingredients list, along with US Customary and Metric measurements, can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post.

  • Oranges - You can use any type of oranges here to make an Orange Jack-O-Lantern, depending on how big you want them. Larger navel oranges are best, but you could make mini ones using mandarins or clementines. You could even use grapefruit.
  • Grapes and Berries - This is what we used to fill the Jack-O-Lantern fruit cups, but there are so many options when it comes to the fillings. More on that below.

Variations

Oranges - We used naval oranges, but you could make mini jack-o-lantern oranges with satsumas or mandarins. You could use grapefruits if you want larger version.

Filling - Anything goes here! You could use a mixture of fruit like grapes, berries, chopped up orange, kiwi, mango and pineapple.

If you wanted to make them a little more of a Halloween treat, then you could mix in some chocolate chips or mini marshmallows. Or maybe add in some Halloween themed jelly sweets.

Extra Tips

  • You could swap the oranges for grapefruit
  • If you didn't want to cut the faces out of the orange, then you could just use a permanent marker to draw them on. This is a way to get kids more involved. Or, they could draw the faces they want, and then a grown-up can cut them out.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to store

These should be eaten straight away, so try to only make as many as you need. However, if you do have leftovers, then you can empty the fruit out of the cups into an air tight container and it will keep for a couple of days.

Can these be made in advance?

Yes, you can carve the orange cups in advance and keep them in the fridge. You can also mix up all the fruit and keep it in an air-tight container until needed.
