Ingredients and Substitutions

A full ingredients list, along with US Customary and Metric measurements, can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post.
- Salmon - Skinless boneless salmon fillets.
- Hot honey - You can buy this in supermarkets, or you can mix chilli flakes into regular honey.
- Oil - Olive oil.
- Seasoning - Garlic powder and paprika.
Variations
Spice - For extra spice, add a pinch of chilli flakes, cayenne pepper or a little sriracha to the marinade.
Citrus - For some freshness, add a squeeze of fresh lime juice or lemon juice after cooking. This helps balance the sweetness of the hot honey.
Asian twist - Add a splash of soy sauce and a little grated ginger to the coating. Serve with rice, cucumber and spring onions.
How To Make Hot Honey Salmon Bites

Step 1
Put the salmon chunks into a bowl with the oil, honey, spices and seasoning. Mix well to coat all of the salmon.

Step 2
Transfer the coated salmon to your air fryer.

Step 3
Cook on the Air Fry setting at 200°C/400°F for 6 minutes.
Oven Cooking
To cook these hot honey salmon bites in the oven, preheat your oven to 200°C/180°C/400°F/Gas 6.
Place the coated salmon pieces on a lined baking tray, leaving a little space between each piece. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
For a slightly more caramelised finish, you can place the salmon under the grill/broiler for the final 1 to 2 minutes. Keep a close eye on it, as the honey can catch quickly.
Hot Honey Salmon Bites Serving Suggestions
These hot honey salmon bites are delicious served with fluffy rice, cucumber, avocado and a drizzle of extra hot honey or garlic yogurt sauce like we have.
They also work really well in tacos or wraps with lettuce, pickled red onion, cucumber and a creamy dressing.
For a family dinner, pair them with potato wedges, corn on the cob, roasted vegetables or a simple pasta salad.
You can also turn them into a salmon bowl with rice, edamame, shredded cabbage, pickled onions and a drizzle of sriracha mayo.

Meal Prep and Storage
Store - Hot honey salmon bites are best eaten fresh, but they can still be prepped ahead. Cooked salmon bites can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Let them cool completely before storing.
Reheat - To reheat, place them back in the air fryer at 180°C/350°F for 2 to 3 minutes, or until warmed through. You can also reheat them gently in the microwave, but the texture will be softer.
Freeze - These salmon bites are not ideal for freezing once cooked, as the texture can become a little dry when reheated. For best results, cook them fresh or store in the fridge for quick lunches.
Dannii's Top Tips
- Cut the salmon into similar-sized pieces so they cook evenly.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. If needed, cook in batches.
- Use skinless salmon fillets for the easiest bite-sized pieces.
- Check the salmon at 6 minutes. Air fryers can vary slightly, so thicker pieces may need an extra 1 to 2 minutes.
- Add a little extra hot honey after cooking if you want a stickier, glossier finish.
- Line the air fryer basket with a suitable air fryer liner if you want easier cleanup, but make sure the air can still circulate properly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, but it should be fully defrosted first. Pat the salmon dry with kitchen paper before coating it, otherwise the marinade may become watery and the salmon will not caramelise as well.
The salmon should be opaque and flake easily with a fork. The pieces should still be juicy inside, not dry. Salmon should be cooked to an internal temperature of 63°C/145°F. The best way to test the internal temperature is with a meat thermometer.
