Ingredients and Substitutions

A full ingredients list, along with US Customary and Metric measurements, can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post.
- Watermelon - We used watermelon with seeds, and left some of the seeds in that were too difficult to get out. Feel free to use seedless if you prefer.
- Chocolate - Use a good quality dark chocolate. Something like chocolate chips won't work because they have a waxy coating and it makes it harder for the chocolate to stick to the watermelon. We used an 80% to keep this vegan.
- Toppings - Here is where you can get really creative. We used coconut, walnuts and cashews, but have given some options for other toppings below. You could just leave them plain.
Variations
Chocolate - We use dark chocolate in our desserts as much as possible, but you could use milk or even drizzle some white chocolate over it for a color contrast.
Toppings - There are so many options when it comes to the topping sprinkles. We love nuts, as it's a nice way to make them more nutritious. You could also make a nut-free option with crushed seeds. For extra fruit, freeze dried berries crushed up are a good addition.
Fruit - Whilst this is chocolate dipped watermelon, there is no reason why you can't do this with other fruit too. Sticks of pineapple and mango dipped in chocolate is SO good!
How To Make Chocolate Covered Watermelon- Step by Step

- Step 1: Slice the watermelon into 2.5cm/1" thick rounds. Then cut into eight wedges.

- Step 2: Gently melt the chocolate until smooth and silky.

- Step 3: Dip the tips of the each piece of watermelon into the melted chocolate and put onto a lined baking sheet.
Sprinkle over the toppings and refrigerate until the chocolate has set (about one hour).
Dannii's Tips
- If you want to make your dark chocolate easier to melt, then add a little coconut oil to the pan with the chocolate.
- We cut the watermelon into slices, but you could cube it and dip in chocolate for little bite-sized pieces.
- Add a little sprinkle of sea salt on top of the melted chocolate to really bring out the sweetness.
- Watermelons are all different sizes, so depending on the one you use, the nutritional info will be slightly different.

Frequently Asked Questions
You can store this in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Any longer than that and it will start to go mushy. These can be kept in the freezer too.
This can happen if you have a really juicy watermelon. Pat the watermelon slices dry before dipping them into the melted chocolate. You could also freeze the watermelon first which makes it easier to dip in chocolate.
