Who needs expensive coffee shops or fancy coffee machines when you can make a cup of this delicious Cinnamon Mocha at home in minutes? It's like a hug in a mug and a lovely way to wake up someone special this weekend. A rich chocolaty base with hints of cinnamon and topped with whipped cream.
This is the perfect 'curl up on the sofa on a Sunday afternoon' kind of hot drink and perfect for a cosy autumn hot drink vibe. As far as I am concerned, mochas are where it's at when it comes to hot drinks. It's what I always order in coffee shops, so we have been making our own at home to save on money and give them a lighter twist.
Coffee is what keeps us functioning in life, and chocolate pretty much makes the world go round, so whoever thought to put them both together is pretty much a genius and deserves some kind of coffee making medal. I am sure there is an awards ceremony for that.
It's the perfect combination of bitter and sweet and you know what makes it even better? Cinnamon! Who says cinnamon is just for Christmas? Not us, that's for sure!

Why You Will Love It
- Cheap - Those trips to Starbucks here and there really start to add up. Whilst we won't be cutting that our of our life any time soon, swapping a few coffee trips for making your own at home can save some money.
- Healthier - Not only is it cheaper to make your own coffee shop drinks, but they can be much healthier too. You get to control just how much sugar goes in to them.
- Adaptable - You can adjust the cinnamon depending on just how much you love it. We are huge fans! You could even swap it for ground ginger or nutmeg for something a little different.
- Cosy - When autumn comes, this is just the kind of cosy drink that you want to snuggle up on the sofa with.
Ingredients and Substitutions
A full ingredients list, along with US Customary and Metric measurements, can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post.
- Cashew milk - We love the nutty flavour this gives the mocha, however you could swap it for another plant based milk or even a dairy milk.
- Espresso shots - Difficult to make without a coffee machine, but you could use instant coffee if you wanted. This will result in a less intense coffee flavour though.
- Maple syrup - You could also use honey or your favourite flavoured syrup and use more or less depending on how sweet you like your coffee.
- Cocoa powder - This is what gives it a real rich chocolaty flavour. Try to use the best quality you can, as you really will be able to taste the difference in this homemade mocha. This mixed with the maple syrup makes a delicious homemade chocolate syrup.
- Ground cinnamon - The star of the coffee. Other spices you could use are nutmeg and ginger.
- Cream and cinnamon - to serve (optional)
Variations
You can change this mocha up every time and make something different. We like to swap the cinnamon out for some ground ginger instead, or do a chocolate orange combination with a little squeeze of orange juice and some zest. Love a chocolate mint combination? Add some peppermint extract in - that's always a Christmas favourite in our house.
