These Air Fryer Hunter's Chicken Wraps are everything you love about classic hunter's chicken, but SO much easier. Leftover chicken mixed with homemade, healthier BBQ sauce and then loaded into a wholemeal tortilla wrap with cheese and bacon and cooked until crispy and golden with gooey melted cheese.

These hunter's chicken wraps are high in protein, easy to adapt, family friendly and a great way to use up leftover cooked chicken. We served them with a crunchy homemade broccoli slaw which really boosts the fibre (use a wholemeal wrap here fore extra fibre too).
These high protein wraps (31 grams per wrap) have all the smoky, cheesy, BBQ flavour of hunter's chicken, but they are much quicker and easier than making the traditional version. Using cooked leftover shredded chicken means that this can be made in under 10 minutes.

Ingredients and Substitutions

A full ingredients list, along with US Customary and Metric measurements, can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post.
- Chicken - Leftovers from our Air Fryer Chicken Breasts or Slow Cooker Chicken Breasts.
- BBQ Sauce - You can use your favourite store bought BBQ sauce, but why not try our Healthy BBQ Sauce recipe?
- Greek yogurt - This is optional, but we mixed this in with the BBQ sauce to make it a little creamy and higher in protein. You could use cream cheese.
- Bacon - Air Fryer Bacon is used here. Use turkey bacon to make it leaner.
- Cheese - Use a mature cheddar, as a little goes a long way. You could use mozzarella.
- Wraps - Use large wholemeal wraps for extra fibre.
Variations
Higher protein version - Use a high-protein wrap, add extra shredded chicken (or a high protein cheese), or add a little cottage cheese to the BBQ chicken mixture before filling the wraps.
Higher fibre version - Use seeded wholemeal wraps and add some sweetcorn, black beans, grated courgette (zucchini) or chopped peppers to the chicken mixture. Adding some Pickled Red Onions is also really good.
Lighter - Use turkey bacon or lean bacon medallions, reduced-fat cheddar and a smaller wrap. You could also make it as an open wrap or fold-over instead of a fully loaded burrito-style wrap.
Spicy - Add chilli flakes, chipotle paste, hot sauce or cayenne pepper to the BBQ sauce. A little jalapeño in the wrap also works really well.
Vegetarian - Swap the chicken for shredded cooked jackfruit, roasted mushrooms, tofu pieces or mashed chickpeas. Use vegetarian bacon or leave it out and add extra cheese or beans for protein.
How To Make Air Fryer Hunter's Chicken Wraps

- Step 1: Add the BBQ sauce and yogurt to the cooked, shredded chicken breast.

- Step 2: Mix well until all the chicken is coated.
The chicken should be moist but not swimming in sauce, otherwise the wraps can become soggy.

- Step 3: Lay the wholemeal wraps out on a plate. Divide the BBQ chicken mixture between the wraps, keeping the filling in the centre. Add the chopped cooked bacon and grated cheddar on top.

- Step 4: Fold in the sides of each wrap, then roll it up tightly like a burrito. Place the wraps seam-side down so they stay closed.
Brush the outside of each wrap with a little olive oil. This helps them crisp up in the air fryer and gives them a lovely golden colour. - Step 5: Place the wraps in the air fryer basket, seam-side down. Cook on the Air Fry setting at 180°C/350°F for 6 minutes, turning carefully halfway through if needed. They should be golden and crisp on the outside, with the cheese melted inside.
Serving Suggestions
These air fryer hunter's chicken wraps are delicious served with homemade broccoli slaw, but they also go well with air fryer chips, sweet potato wedges, corn on the cob, salad, cucumber sticks or roasted vegetables.
For a lunchbox-style meal (which my kids love), serve the wrap with carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes, grapes and a small pot of extra BBQ sauce for dipping.
Leftovers
These air fryer hunter's chicken wraps are best eaten straight away, while the outside is crisp and the cheese is melted.
You can make the BBQ chicken filling in advance and store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. The broccoli slaw can also be made ahead, although it is best eaten within 24 hours for the crunchiest texture.
Assembled uncooked wraps can be stored in the fridge for a few hours, but they may soften slightly as the BBQ sauce will start to make everything soggy. Cooked wraps can be wrapped up and stored in the fridge for a couple of days.
Reheat - Reheat cooked wraps in the air fryer at 160°C/315°F for 3 to 4 minutes, or until heated through. Avoid microwaving if possible, as this can make the wrap soft rather than crispy.
Freeze - You can freeze the BBQ chicken filling, but it is best not to freeze the assembled wraps with the cheese and bacon as the texture of the wrap can change. Freeze the cooled BBQ chicken in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Defrost in the fridge overnight, then assemble the wraps fresh before air frying.

Dannii's Top Tips
- Do not overfill the wraps, as this makes them harder to roll and more likely to leak in the air fryer. Keep the filling in the centre and leave enough space around the edges to fold them tightly.
- Make sure the bacon is cooked before adding it to the wrap. The air fryer cooking time is only long enough to crisp the wrap and melt the cheese, not to cook raw bacon.
- The chicken should be shredded rather than chopped, as it mixes better with the BBQ sauce.
- Place the wraps seam-side down in the air fryer basket. This helps them stay closed as they cook.
- If your wraps are browning too quickly, reduce the air fryer temperature slightly. Air fryers can vary, so check them after 5 minutes the first time you make them.
- If using cold leftover chicken from the fridge, make sure the filling is piping hot before serving.
