Homemade burgers are so easy to make that you will never want to go to the drive-thru again. This Quorn Burger Recipe is lower in calories and fat than the average burger, full of flavour and a great way to eat less meat through the week (which is better for the environment). We have given them a flavour boost with pesto.
Friday night is burger night in our house, without fail. There is so much that you can do with a burger, that we never get bored. A juicy burger, a buttery bun, creamy cheese, loaded with toppings and the perfect sauce. What better way to spend the weekend?
We try to go meat free as often as possible, and we really love using Quorn mince to make our own homemade Quorn burgers. A lot of people don't realise that you can use the Quorn Mince to make homemade burgers, but you can and it is so easy. This is our favourite Quorn mince recipe.

Ingredients and Substitutions
A full ingredients list, along with US Customary and Metric measurements, can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post.
- Quorn Meat Free Mince - A perfect meat alternative for making burgers and this is a delicious Quorn mince recipe if you are looking to cook with it more.
- Shallots and garlic - Adds even more flavour to the burgers.
- Breadcrumbs - Helps to bind the burger together. Use wholewheat to help reduce calories.
- Egg - Also helps to bind the burger.
- Vegetarian pesto - Flavours the burger and also the sauce used on it. You could use our Mixed Herb Pesto, Carrot Top Pesto or Spinach Pesto.
- Fat free Greek yogurt - For the sauce. Greek yogurt is best as it is thicker.
- Burger buns - Any burger buns will do, but we went with brioche.
- Rocket (arugula) - Or any other type of lettuce will work.
- Cheese - You have to have cheese on a burger - we used mozzarella as it adds another Italian touch to the burger.
Variations
If you didn't want to use pesto, you could add a sun-dried tomato paste or you could also use a Fajita Seasoning.
Now, for the toppings for the burgers, the options are almost endless and this is a great way to let everyone make their own burgers so everyone is happy! Here are some of our favourite toppings:
Sauce - We used our pesto sauce, but you could also add Homemade Burger Sauce, but pretty much any sauce goes. Why not try our Homemade Ketchup or Healthy BBQ Sauce? We also love our Chipotle Southwest Sauce.
Cheese - Anything that melts well will work here. Cheddar, mozzarella, blue cheese, goat's cheese, Swiss.
Salad - I know, I know! But it does have a place in a burger. We added some rocket lettuce, but chopped little gem or iceberg would work. You could also add slices of tomato, onions or avocado. For a kick of heat, add some jalapenos.
How to Make Quorn Burgers - Step by Step
- Step 1: Add a little oil to a pan and then add the diced shallots and garlic and gently cook for 2 minutes.
- Step 2: Add the Quorn Meat Free Mince and cook for a further 3 minutes.
- Step 3: Put the slice of bread into a food processor and blend until it becomes breadcrumbs. Add to a bowl with the cooked Quorn mixture, egg, half the pesto and salt and pepper.
- Step 4: Mix well.
- Step 5: Use your hands to form the mixture into 2 burgers and then put on a plate in the fridge for 30 minutes to firm up.
- Step 6: Heat a little oil in the pan again and then add the burgers and cook for 2 minutes each side.
- Step 7: Mix the rest of the pesto with the yogurt and add to the buns with the rocket and then top with the burgers and mozzarella.
What to Serve With Quorn Burgers
These burgers really are the main event and they are pretty filling once you have all the toppings. However, if you wanted to make it into a bigger meal, then we have lots of suggestions for you.
Burger and fries is the perfect combination. Why not try our Air Fryer Chips, Masala Chips, Air Fryer Potato Wedges or Sweet Potato Wedges?
We love slaw on the side of a burger and we have got you covered there too. Try our Pickled Red Onions, BEST Homemade Coleslaw, Broccoli Slaw, No Mayo Slaw or Mexican Coleslaw.
We love hosting burger nights and to bulk it all out a bit we serve them with some of these sides that go down very well:
- Baked Jalapeno Poppers
- Cheesy Cauliflower Nuggets
- Parmesan Truffle Fries
- Baked Halloumi Fries
- Oven Baked Onion Rings
Extra Tips
- Put the burgers in the fridge for 30 minutes before cooking, as this will help them to stay together.
- Be really careful when flipping the Quorn burgers over, as they are a little more fragile than a meat version.
- We used pesto in ours to add more flavour, but you could swap it for something like harissa for a change.
- Want a lower carb option? Swap the burger bun for a giant lettuce leaf. It's a little messier, but certainly lighter.
- If you really want these in a bun, save some calories (around 100) by using a regular burger bun instead of brioche.
- Mini versions of these burgers would be great for party food.
Frequently Asked Questions
Once the air fryer burgers are made up with the buns, sauces and toppings, they need to be eaten straight away. However, you can make extra of the burger patties themselves and store those. You can wrap them up and store them in an air tight container in the fridge for 2 days.
The same goes for freezing. You can't freeze the made up burger, but you can freeze the air fryer hamburger patties. Wrap them in cling film and then put them in a freezer bag and they will keep for up to 3 months.
Yes, these can be air fried and they will take 10 minutes at 200C.

really like pesto, but I can only have it in small doses. Because of the pine nuts, if I have too many I get a copper taste in my mouth, like sucking on pennies, and it normally lasts for about a week!
Lucy Melissa Smith says

I never though about adding pesto to yogurt as a dip either - good call ;)

We love Quorn in our household, as my husband doesn't eat a lot of meat. The Quorn meatballs you can buy are amazing, and we also buy the mince and the chunks. Great recipe - I would think the Pesto would add a great flavour to the burgers.
