    Ingredients needed

All the ingredients needed for this recipe laid out with text overlay labels.
    • Pizza dough - We used a ball of our homemade wholewheat pizza dough. However, you could use a homemade white pizza dough, or just use a store bought ready rolled dough if you wanted to save yourself some time. It is worth making your own dough though.
    • Pizza sauce - You can use any good quality store bought pizza sauce, a marinara, or even our Easy Pasta Sauce. We like a garlic heavy sauce, so feel free to add lots of extra garlic to whatever pizza sauce you use.
    • Roasted red peppers - These add SO much extra flavour, without a lot of extra calories. You could roast your own red peppers, but we find the jarred ones just as good, and they save so much time. You could also just thinly slice some fresh red pepper.
    • Cherry tomatoes - We love halved cherry tomatoes on this pizza. They add lots of freshness to the pizza. You could add some chopped sun-dried tomatoes too for a real tomato burst.
    • Artichokes - We used a jar of artichokes in oil, as they have lots of flavour and they are much easier than cooking them yourself. Just chop them a bit smaller before scattering them on the pizza. Red onion - this adds some crunch to the pizza, and colour too. You could swap it for sliced shallots, which would be sweeter.
    • Spinach - This is a great way to give the Greek pizza a green veggie boost. We like to chop it up finely and mix it in with the pizza sauce. There isn't a lot of spinach in this recipe, because it releases moisture and can make the pizza really soggy if you use too much.
    • Olives - We used a mixed of green olives and Kalamata, however you can use any olives. Add some extra flavour with some stuffed olives. You could use our marinated olives.
    • Mozzarella - This gives a real creamy and cheesy base to the Greek pizza. It might not be very Greek, but we think that it is essential for a pizza. You could leave it out and just have feta if you wanted a lighter pizza.
    • Feta - It wouldn't be a Greek pizza without some feta. This adds lots of creaminess, and some extra saltiness too.
    • Fresh basil - We find that this finishes the pizza off really nicely. You could use fresh parsley instead.

A full ingredients list with measurements is in the recipe card below.

How to make a Greek pizza - Step by step

Prep: Preheat your oven to 180°C/160°C(fan)/350°F/Gas 4.

One: Roll out the pizza dough and spread it with the pizza sauce. Sprinkle the chopped spinach on the sauce (a) and then add the mozzarella (b). Add the chopped red pepper (c) and sliced olives (d).

Four shot collage of pizza dough with sauce, cheese, peppers then olives on it.

Two: Add the artichokes (a), cherry tomatoes (b) and feta (c). Cook for 15 minutes (d).

Four shot collage of artichokes, tomatoes, feta added. Then cooked pizza.

    Pizza sauce

You don't have to use a tomato based pizza sauce at all. You could just brush the dough with a lemon and herb olive oil mixture which would let the flavours of the topping shine through. The oil will also help the crust get nice and golden.

We used a good quality store bought pizza sauce to save time. However you could also just mix together some passata and dried Italian herbs and use that. Our try our Easy Pizza Sauce recipe.

    Variations

We love any meal that has the opportunity to add loads of vegetables, and this Mediterranean pizza is just that. We added roasted red peppers, artichoke and spinach for a mixture of colours and textures. There are so many options, and whilst they might not all very authentic to a Greek pizza, they are delicious:

    • Sweetcorn
    • Courgette
    • Aubergine
    • Grated carrot
    • Mushrooms

    What to serve it with

    • Chips/Fries: We have The Best Air Fryer Fries, Baked Sweet Potato Fries or Baked Polenta Fries to choose from.
    • Slaw: Add a side of slaw with either some Mexican Coleslaw, Asian Slaw, Broccoli Slaw.
    • Potato Salad: Mustard Potato Salad, No Mayo Potato Salad or Mediterranean Potato Salad.
    • Dips/Sauce: Healthier Ketchup, Healthy BBQ Sauce, Tzatziki, Salsa, Jalapeno Sauce or some Guacamole.
    • Others: Onion Rings, Roasted Vegetables, Grilled Corn, Beetroot and Goat's Cheese Salad or Spanish Olives.

This is just a small selection of our side dishes. Check out our Side Dish Recipes for more inspiration.

    FAQs

    Is Greek pizza healthy?

Healthy is such a subjective word, however make your own pizza at home from scratch is a great opportunity to make some healthy swaps, and you can control exactly what goes on to it. We used a homemade wholewheat base and then a homemade pizza sauce. You can also load it with vegetables if you wanted to.

Can you add meat to this Greek pizza recipe?

This pizza really isn't missing meat. However, if you wanted to, then you could add some chopped grilled chicken or even leftovers of our Pulled Lamb.

    How to store homemade pizza

Cooked pizza will keep well in the fridge for up to 2 days. To freeze, let the pizza cool completely and wrap individual slices in cling film (Saran wrap). Put the slices in sealable freezer bag, squeezing out as much air as possible. Freeze for up to 3 months.
To reheat, you can cook from frozen. Bake the pizza slices in the oven at 230°C/450°F/Gas 8, and cook until heated through.

Can you use a tortilla wrap as a pizza base?

Yes, if you wanted to make a quick and easy pizza base, then you could use a tortilla wrap instead of traditional pizza dough. It wouldn't hold all the toppings together as well, but it's a nice lighter option.

    Extra tips

    • You can swap the spinach for kale or rocket lettuce if you prefer.
    • If you like a kick of spice on your food, sprinkle the pizza with red chilli flakes before serving.
    • You can swap the mozzarella for a mature cheddar. It just needs to be a cheese that melts well.

I remember the first time I had feta on pizza was years ago in Cyprus, the Greek side and I was hooked. I love it on pizza. I haven't made pizza dough in ages. Have you found a good shop bought dough? Where is it from?
